Leighton Hall

Sycamore class visited Leighton Hall on Tuesday to learn more about the life of Victorian children!  The hall was home to the Gallow family.  We had the opportunity to try on Victorian clothes, play Victorian games and learnt about how they were educated! It was very different to life in workhouses and orphanages! We also made Easter crafts, it was a fantastic day!

Zoetropes

Sycamore Class have been making zoetropes in DT, a popular toy from the Victorian times! We thought carefully about our designs, making sure our animations transitioned smoothly and we really enjoyed trying them out, both by hand and with the help of an electrical motor!

All the classes visited the church as part of our R.E topic on Christianity.

Sycamore Class’ Poems

Here are a selection of the poems written by Sycamore Class during Andy Tooze’s visit. How brilliant!

Pitch and volume

In Science, Sycamore class have continued their exploration of sound by looking at the different volumes and pitches of sound.  We studied the sounds produced by a range of instruments and thought about how we can alter the pitch and volume!

Andy Tooze visit

Last week we had a visit from the poet, Andy Tooze. He did a workshop with each class, writing and reciting poems. Everyone had so much fun and learnt lots. What a brilliant poet he is!

String Telephones!

Sycamore class are learning about sound in Science.  Sound can be heard because it produces vibrations which travel through a medium from the source to our ears. We tested this by making our own string telephones.
