Reception Admissions

Your child will be entitled to join a Reception class if he or she is to turn five during the academic year 1st September to 31st August.

Places for Reception classes for all Lancashire schools are allocated by the Local Authority (for our school, this is based at the White Cross Education Centre in Lancaster).  Information can be found on Lancashire County Council’s website at https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/apply-for-a-primary-school-place/

There are strict guidelines and deadlines for the application process – we are happy to explain and help in any way we can. Our Reception Class has an intake of 15 children.

We hold an open afternoon early in the Autumn term and you are very welcome to come along to that, we can also show prospective parents around school at other times.  The deadline for applications is in the middle of January each year with the exact date published on LCC’s website.

In the event that our school is over-subscribed, the Authority will use the County Admissions Policy to decide who should be offered a place.  An appeals procedure exists for those who are not offered a place.  Please ask us for a copy of the Admissions Policy should you require one.

Children who are successful in obtaining a place at our school will be invited to 6 visits to our Reception classroom, usually beginning after the Easter holidays.  We also arrange an information evening for parents of new children in the summer term and Phonics and Maths information evenings early in the Autumn term when your child has started.

When appropriate, our Reception teacher, will visit the current playgroup/nursery setting to smooth the transition into our school.  In addition, for their first week at school, the children only attend on a part-time basis, usually in the mornings.  They stay for lunch towards the end of that week and attend full time after 4 days of part time where their time in school increases slightly each day.

In Year Admissions

If you are interested in your child moving to our school after they have started school elsewhere, we will be able to admit you to our school, in consultation with the Pupil Access Team.

If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right of appeal.

Appeals

If you need to go to appeal for a place at our school, either for a place in Reception or in any other year group, your appeal should be submitted using the link below within twenty days of refusal of admission. The appeal provides you with an opportunity to explain why you wish to register your child at our school. The appeal forms and advice on how to complete them is available on the Lancashire County Council website:
