Global Learning
All of our staff have completed the Global Learning Programme so we are a Global Learning School. We believe it is essential for all young people to learn about the world around them including different countries’ landscapes and cultures and issues around the environment and people around the world and in our own country. We integrate Global Learning in many ways into our curriculum including assembly focuses and our themes. Some of our themes centre entirely on Global Learning such as Global Citizens and Who Are Our Neighbours. Some involve learning about world environmental issues such as Our Blue Planet, some enable us to explore different cultures and ways of life such as What’s On The Menu and Far, Far Away.
Therefore, we teach our children about the world around them and about global issues both past and present linked with our whole school themes, our assembly themes, our Philosophy 4 Children discussions and our daily Global Learning sessions. We seek to dispel stereo-typical views about the world and different cultures by challenging the children’s pre-conceived ideas and encouraging them to think more deeply.
We are always keen to link with schools in areas of the country or world different from our own. Over the past few years, we have forged links with schools in Turkey, central London, the Australian outback and the French Alps. We are always looking for new and exciting opportunities to enrich our curriculum through visits and visitors such as story-tellers from around the world, drama productions, visits to places of worship and other areas of the country such as London and Liverpool and visits from people from other cultures or parts of the world.
