Community

We are a small village school and as such we like to be involved in village events and be linked with our local community in a meaningful ways. We are involved in village events and we copy and give out fliers to families for local events generally as there are many community events involving our children and families.  We are closely linked with the Parish Council and our children are sometimes involved in projects with the Council to improve their local area. We frequently support local projects such as burying time capsules and entering competitions organised by local businesses, services and charities. We hold charity events for local charities frequently, in particular for St John’s Hospice and MacMillan Cancer Care.

One of our staff members also runs a youth club at the village hall which many of our children attend.  Within our RE curriculum, we visit our local churches and find out more about the churches themselves, the old school and history of the village.  Our village is a “Double Thankful” village as no one from here was killed in either World War so that is something we learn about in school too.  We always welcome volunteers to come into school from our village and have members of the community assisting with reading, etc.  We are also keen to learn from the expertise and interests of members of our community and welcome them in to talk with the children or work with them on a specific aspect e.g. gardening, local history, etc.
