Illness and Medicines

Illness at Home

It is always a tricky balance knowing when to send your child into school and when not to if they are feeling unwell.  If your child is definitely unfit for school, please let us know prior to the start of the school day.  If you are unsure and their illness doesn’t appear to be infectious, we would prefer that they came into school and we can phone for them to go home if they deteriorate.  If in doubt, please give us a call.

Illness in School

If your child becomes ill during the school day we will contact you to collect your child.

Infectious Conditions

In order to minimise the spread of infectious conditions, we follow the Department of Health and Local Authority recommendations.

For sickness or diarrhoea, your child should stay at home for 48 hours after their last bout of illness to prevent passing on of the infection.

If your child has another infectious condition, please contact school to find out how long they need to be off school for.

Medicines

If your child needs to take medicine in school e.g. a course of antibiotics or Calpol, we will ask you to complete a form giving us permission to administer the medicine.  Alternatively, you are welcome to come into school to give the medicine directly to your child.
