Yesterday we went on an amazing trip to Brockhole. We got the boat from Bowness to Brockhole, where we did loads of outdoor activities. We made memory sticks using loom bands and natural objects, we made necklaces by threading leaves onto wool, added things to a den to make it more comfortable for the animals, had a picnic and had a play on the massive adventure playground! We even had time to go to the gift shop!
Over the past few weeks in Oak Class we have been looking at the book The Queen’s Hat. Lots of our learning has been about the Queen. We have done lots of writing, made a biography on the computer and designed a new hat for the Queen. Over the past two days we have made crowns and bunting and this morning we made scones drawing knowledge from our recent topic on weighing! This afternoon we had a royal tea party with scones (with jam and cream!), tea and juice. We all wore our crowns, waved our flags and even decorated the tables with cups of flowers. We felt very royal. Some of us even practised our Queen waves! We finished off the afternoon with a quick play on the climbing frame, a story under the tree and of course some dancing to… who else… Queen!

So, this wasn’t the week we had planned was it? Anyway…at least Mrs Brough has managed to rearrange so we can still go – that is good news at least.
So, tasks this week:
I would like you to develop your project on WW2 to look at different aspects of the war and find out about things which interest you. You can make a booklet or a ppt about what you have found out, including pages on different aspects you have researched.
Things you might want to include are:
General background – which might look at questions such as – How and why did WW2 begin? Who were the Axis and Allied Powers? Why did Great Britain get involved in the war?
Life at Home – You could find out about the Home Front, the Home Guard, roles for women, the experiences of children, evacuation, rationing, digging for victory, air raids and shelters, entertainment, cinemas, the news, the wireless and keeping your spirits up and anything else which interests you.
Life for the Soldiers – Find out about what a typical day was like for a soldier in WW2. Which countries might they have fought in? Did they get to come home often? What were conditions like for them? Parcels from home? Songs they sang to keep their spirits up and anything else you can find out.
Famous Events in WW2 – You could find out about The Blitz, The Battle of Britain, Operation Overlord and Dunkirk and any other famous events you want to investigate.
The End of the War – How did the war end, why is VE day not the end of the war, what happened to the axis powers after the war, the soldiers return home and celebrations in Britain.
Don’t forget to include maps, pictures, photographs and anything else to add interest too.
You can use any books you have at home, the internet – though make sure you include ‘children’ or ‘kids’ or ‘KS2’ in your search to find appropriate information. Here are some to get you started.

We have recently been learning about electricity and investigating how to create a series circuit. We used this knowledge in our DT lessons when we made a zoetrope and then built a circuit with a motor to make it turn.
Sycamore Class had a great day out. We had a walk near Devil’s Bridge, constructed stone towers and then went on to Arkholme school where we took part in a cross country and orienteering competition. We did well in both competitions, well done everyone!
Chestnut Class had a visitor in school. A vicar came to speak to them about baptism to link in with their R.E topic on Christianity.
We were able to open the brand new Oak Class climbing frame today after our new soft flooring had been put down over the weekend. We had a great time and even the adults had a go!
Oak and Chestnut Class had a challenge today to make up their paint and then use it to uncover the secret number. They then had to put these in order. It was like magic!
Chestnut Class were very lucky to have Sarah Ward in school to show them how to decorate a cupcake. We think they look too good eat… almost!
