Orienteering

Sycamore Class’s PE focus is Orienteering.  We have started by learning to set our map and orientate ourselves in a space and using our new skills to navigate around different sets of cones.  Next, we will be using our orienteering course to further our map reading skills.

Leighton Hall

Sycamore Class visited Leighton Hall as part of their History topic, The Victorians.  We were lucky enough to be taken on a guided tour, in which we learnt about the hall in Victorian times.  We had the opportunity to try on Victorian clothes, play Victorian games and discover how they were educated! It was very different to life in workhouses and orphanages!

Circuits

In Science, Sycamore Class have been learning about electricity and we had the chance to create our own circuits.  We discovered a power source (a cell) can be used to power different electrical components, including buzzers, motors and lamps.  We thought about complete and incomplete circuits and used a switch to start and stop the flow of electricity.

Athletics Tournament

Congratulations to our Indoor Athletics team. We took part in our second round of fixtures on Friday after school. Some fantastic performances saw us gain the most points and we were winners on the day. Well done to all the children involved.

Map Walk and Play Park

Beech Class did some geography field work linked to our work on maps. We followed a route spotting features on the OS maps and then had a well deserved play in the park.

Girls Football Match

Some of our KS2 girls took part in a mini football festival at Arkholme school. They played so well as part of a team and we are very proud of them!

Park and Ice Cream Sundaes

All the adults in Oak Class have been so impressed with their behaviour, effort, teamwork and so many other things recently, including coping so well with all of the different visitors who were in and out of school last week, that they thought they deserved a treat! We took a trip to the park and then came back to school to make ice cream sundaes. We had a wonderful time!

Beech Class Visit

Beech Class visited Masjid Salaam Mosque learning lots about Islam and different fragrances. We also visited the Museum of Lancashire WWII to link with our learning in history.

Creative Writing

Some children from Sycamore Class had the opportunity to visit Bowerham School for the day to take part in a workshop by author David Webb. We brought back some signed books for Sycamore Class to enjoy.

Chinese New Year

Oak Class have been learning about Chinese New Year and thought it would be nice to share this with Chestnut Class. We had a Chinese themed morning and tried lots of different Chinese foods. They were very yummy!
