Athletics

Twelve children in Sycamore class recently took part in the CSSCO Athletics competition at Arkholme school.  They each had to participate in a track and field event against children from different schools.  It was a fantastic afternoon with the children demonstrating super teamwork and perseverance! Well done!

The Lake District-Sycamore

Sycamore really enjoyed their recent trip to the Lake District.  At Wray Castle, we spent time sketching the beautiful scenery and making cosy habitats for animals.   We had to think carefully about what to include in our habitats to ensure they were perfect for animals to live in, including a comfy place to sleep, a source of food/ water and protection from the elements.  We then travelled to Brockhole via boat; some of us even braved the top deck! At Brockhole, we made sculptures on the beach and spent time playing in the amazing park.  We all had a super day!

Heaves Farm

Sycamore Class had a fantastic day at Heaves Farm learning about farming! We spent time with the cows, learning about how they are looked after and how we collect milk.  We also learnt about how sheep are sheared and how their fleece can be used to create lots of different things!  We had a great day!

DT

Beech Class have used sawing, sanding, gluing and hammering skills in their DT work on structures this week. Linking to our Africa theme, we built nomadic dwellings and completed independent research to find out about the Tuareg people: a semi-nomadic tribe in the African Sahara.

University of Lancaster

A visitor from the University of Lancaster led a STEM workshop exploring structures and how engineering can be used to solve problems. We designed space-saving planting systems to grow our own cress in the classroom.

Puberty Lessons

Beech Class have been learning about changes that happen to our bodies as we get older.

Bikeability

Beech Class enjoyed taking part in Bikeability. They all tried so hard and the instructors were very impressed with their effort. Well done everyone!

The Lake District Trip

The whole school had a wonderful day out in the Lake District. The weather wasn’t completely on our side but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We had a great time exploring Wray Castle and Brockholes.

Heaves Farm

Beech Class had a great time at Heaves Farm last week. Everyone got the opportunity to do a range of different activities such as looking at bees, calves, eating eggy bread, and learning about where our meat comes from. There were too many activities to count and everyone got to see a range of different things!

Nurse Visit

Oak Class had a visit from Nurse Stephanie (Mrs Laycock’s mum) yesterday. She talked to us about how nursing has changed over time and everyone got a chance to have a go at taking each other’s blood pressure, checking each other’s oxygen and temperature as well as bandaging each other. Some of us even managed to hear our heart beats! Thank you so much Nurse Stephanie for coming to visit us. We learnt loads!
