Sycamore Class really enjoyed our visit from a man who lives in Kenya. We learnt lots of very interesting facts about volcanoes, particularly Mount Nyiragongo, Gorillas and Warthogs.
Sycamore Class have been making habitats for a range of different animals, including foxes, hedgehogs and rabbits. They were tasked with ‘selling their habitat’ as if they were estate agents, describing in detail what they had made and explaining their design choices!
We investigated the capacity and volume of a range of different containers in maths. We added water to each container to a specific volume and made sure to read the scale accurately. We also investigated the capacity of some containers, of which we didn’t know the capacity, using measuring jugs to achieve this!
This term, our PE focus is Athletics. We started by looking at running, including accurate technique for sprinting and changing direction. We are now focusing on throwing, making sure we position ourselves correctly, starting low and throwing high with speed. After this, we will move on to jumping!
Sycamore recently visited the Kadampa Meditation Centre at Conishead Priory, as part of our new RE topic for this term, Buddhism. We learned about the origins of Buddhism, Buddhist practices and we even had the chance to take part in a meditation. We felt very relaxed and calm. We also had a tour of the temple, learning about the shrines and offerings. Following on from this, we walked through the woodlands to the beach, where we spent time beachcombing. We had so much fun!
8 children from Sycamore Class represented our school at a multi-skills tournament. They were a credit to our school and even though we didn’t come back with a trophy they all tried their best and enjoyed taking part.
