Musical Instruments
We have finished off our topic on sound by making our own pan flutes and small string instruments. We thought about what we needed to do to make our instruments produce a higher or lower pitch.

Sycamore class have been looking at sound in our science lessons. We have been thinking about the idea that sound is produced and travels through objects by vibrations. We loved making string telephones to show us how this works. We then investigated which materials might be the best to help soundproof a carboard box kennel for a toy dog!

Sycamore Class thought about leadership and trust during our RE lesson today. We took turns leading our talk partners, who had their eyes closed, safely through other people and around cones. We then discussed what qualities our talk partners had that made us trust them to keep us safe.

During the term, Sycamore and Beech Class have been learning to code using Scratch. Below is a link for a guide to help students and parents learn how to code over the coming festive break.
Details:
Scratch – First Steps combines colourful graphics with clear step by step instructions and is designed to get young people up and running with coding. It’s good for complete beginners as well as anyone who needs a refresher on the basics. The Guide is free to download and use anywhere, anytime you like, so just go to https://stemforstarters.com/first_steps and start coding!
The Scratch programming language is fun and easy to use but also surprisingly powerful. It’s free, runs on most kinds of computer and supports the KS2 computing curriculum.
This year we teamed up with Duke Theatre to create a drama piece about Christmas 2020! We had great fun!
In the run up to Christmas we have been taking part in many activities. We especially enjoyed making our melted snowman biscuits – and eating them!

Sycamore Class enjoyed designing and creating wells and developed lots of skills including using a glue gun, measuring, sawing and decision making.

Sycamore Class created colourful African pots as part of our theme topic (Journeys). They formed a thumb pot to start with and then added coils on top. Using their hands and a range of tools, they created their planned designs and added different textures. Once dry, they painted on top. Well done.
