County Councillor visit
Lizzi Collinge, County Councillor, visited KS2 classes and explained about the work on the County Council and generally about our democratic political system. The children in both Beech Class and Sycamore Class were invited to come up with their own ideas for laws. They suggested laws about: dropping litter, taxes, limiting how much wealth someone can have, limiting people to owning one house, reducing the price of food, looking after the environment, making all food free, allowing people to vote from 16, having more control over genetic modification, etc.
We also debated some of our ideas within our classes. We looked at photographs of the County Council chambers and learned about the process of running the council and what sorts of things councillors deal with. We asked lots of good questions about her role and what inspired her to be a councillor too.
